Unveiled last September and being deployed since October, MIUI 11 has already found a successor. Without any real surprise, this is MIUI 12. Xiaomi has just announced on Weibo the next arrival of its overlay (or fork, for purists).
Like almost all smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi has developed its own fork of Android, which offers additional features and a partially modified environment of the Google operating system. Xiaomi’s MIUI overlay is getting richer every year and it is, therefore, logical that the manufacturer has just announced the start of the construction of MIUI 12. Xiaomi has posted one via an official visual posted on Weibo.
MIUI 12 likely to be released in Q3 2020
No clue was left concerning the new features of this edition, apart from the visual on a black background. A choice that clearly suggests that the full dark mode of the system should be part of the additions to this new edition of MIUI. Recall that version 11 had seen the integration of new animations or the improvement of the always-on display. And it had above all allowed the appearance of an application drawer, a feature that was still lacking in the overlay, which until now required the installation of a third-party application like Nova Launcher.
It is also unknown when MIUI will be officially available. If we stick to the usual calendar of the Chinese manufacturer, the innovations of the fork should be officially announced in September 2020, while its deployment should take place in the following month. In addition, Xiaomi having more and more tendency to publish its updates on the international level, by privileging China for a few days or a few weeks only, MIUI 12 should land in France shortly after its announcement.
However, remember that the update spreads over several months depending on the smartphone models. MIUI 11 has just landed on the Mi 8, for example. And MIUi 11 was released last year.
