Many indiscretions and leaks allow us to have a first glimpse of the Galaxy S21.

📆 What is the Galaxy S21 release date?

Samsung to present all three Galaxy S21 (S30) on January 14, 2021. Following disappointing sales of Note 20 and S20, the manufacturer would have decided to precipitate the arrival of the range on the market.

As always, pre-orders should be open immediately. Smartphones should therefore be on sale in stores from January 29, 2021.

Which corresponds to the exit window leaked by executives from an Indian Samsung Experience Store.

💰 What is the price of the Galaxy S21?

Samsung could lower its prices with the Galaxy S21. The range would thus begin between 849 and 899 dollars for the standard S21, while the S21 Ultra would cost between $ 1,249 and $ 1,299. As a reminder, Samsung had marketed the Galaxy S20 range between € 909 and € 1359.

📱 What is the design of the Galaxy S21?

An official video unveiled the full look of the Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra. Overall we can say that the design of the Galaxy S21 resembles that of the previous generation. It is distinguished only by a photo block of a new kind that extends around the edges of the smartphone.

We would have liked that Samsung finally offers us a mobile front face that is only screen, without border, notch or punch. It will not be a priori for this time. The manufacturer is working on a photo sensor technology under the screen which would make it invisible, as has already been done with fingerprint scanners.

But Samsung is not yet ready to implement it in a consumer product, because the component does not yet fully meet its quality requirements. It’s the foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Fold 3 expected in the second half of 2021 which could become the first device to benefit from it.

The S21 + and S21 Ultra would benefit from an aluminum chassis and glass back, with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection as on the Note 20. We note thanks to faithful renderings of the smartphone that the S21 + would be slightly larger than the S20 +.

For his part, the standard S21 would be content with plastic, like the Note 20. All three smartphones are said to be IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. In addition, a major leak from a Samsung Experience Store in India unveils the official colors of the three models before their time.

So the Galaxy S21 would be available in gray, pink, purple, and white. The Galaxy S21 Plus would be offered in pink, purple, silver and black. As for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it would only be offered in the colors black and silver.

📳 What screen is fitted to the Galaxy S21?

The standard Galaxy S21

There will normally be three screen sizes : 6.2 inches for the S21, 6.7 inches for the S21 + and 6.8 inches for the S21 Ultra. Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology will make a comeback on all three S21 models.

All three screens should display a QHD + 1440p definition, with HDR10 + compatibility and benefit from frequency of refreshment until 120 Hz on the S21 Ultra.

Samsung should allow enjoy both 120 Hz and QHD + quality, whereas it was necessary to choose between the two on the previous generation (FHD + in 120 Hz or QHD + in 60 Hz). To reduce the energy impact, Samsung would include the LPTO technology in its display.

Already used in Apple Watch, LTPO technology would be reserved for the S21 Ultra panel. Functionality Always-On will of course be there to always see the time, the battery level and notifications even at rest.

In addition, those screens that will have uniform borders on all four sides will not all have curved edges like the current generation of Galaxy. Sources close to the industry even confirm that Galaxy S21 and S21 + will have a fully flat AMOLED display.

🛠 What is the technical sheet of Galaxy S21?

The S21 generation marks a turning point, as they will be equipped with a SoC engraved in 5 nm, and no longer in 7 nm (or 8 nm). However, like every year two different chips will be used depending on the market.

In Europe, and therefore in France, it will be necessary to rely on Galaxy S21s equipped with an Exynos 2100 SoC, while in the United States and in certain markets, smartphones will be sold with a Snapdragon 888 chip.

However, as you know, there has been a performance gap between the Exynos and Snapdragon smartphones for several years. Since theabandonment of the R&D division of Exynos, we could hope for a little more “normal” performance in the tones of what Qualcomm offers.

The first benchmarks have already fallen and are not really encouraging. The S21 Ultra, with an Exynos 2100, is indeed well below the iPhone 12 and its A14 Bionic chip. While a AnTuTu benchmark comparison of the S21 + Snapdragon 888 vs iPhone 12 Pro Max suggests equivalent performance. Nevertheless, we must qualify, specifying that we only have preliminary benchmarks which are therefore not necessarily representative of the final result.

The Exynos 990 will give way to the Exynos 2100

🔋 What autonomy for the Galaxy S21?

The standard S21 should carry a 4000 mAh battery like the S20. The S21 + would be entitled to a 4800 mAh accumulator, with a capacity slightly greater than what we had on the S20 +. No change for the Ultra version, this is the same 5000 mAh battery of the S20 Ultra that is expected on this model.

The standard S21

The Galaxy S21 Ultra would benefit from a 45 Watts fast charge. On the other hand, the fast charging of the Galaxy S21 would not change: they would still be 25 Watts, like the S20. On the other hand, Samsung could also sell a faster 30 watt charger.

The three mobiles would be compatible with wireless charging as well as “powerbank” function allowing the smartphone battery to be used to charge a third-party device, such as wireless headphones.

📸 Is the Galaxy S21 good in photos?

The information that has reached us so far concerns above all the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The latter would be equipped with a 108 megapixel sensor. This will not be the ISOCELL Bright HM1 module found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra but a improved version of it.

The S21 Ultra

Samsung is betting on a quadruple photo sensor with 108 megapixel main lens, a 10 megapixel telephoto lens with 10x zoom, a 12 megapixel module and a 10 megapixel telephoto lens with x3 zoom – which was confirmed by a leak from a Samsung Experience Store in India.

In the hole in the screen, Samsung would place a 40-megapixel photo sensor. For their part, the S21 and S21 + would be equipped with a triple photo sensor consisting of a 12-megapixel sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens. The three Galaxy S21s should allow 8K filming at 30fps.

🖋 Does the Galaxy S21 have an S-Pen stylus?

The S21 Ultra should be accompanied by the S-Pen, with features hitherto exclusive to the Note range. It should be noted that the renderings of the S21 Ultra do not nevertheless mention a drawer to house the S-Pen in the structure.

The arrival of S-Pen is almost confirmed on the S21 Ultra model – the accessory will nevertheless be sold separately.

🤖 Which Android version for the Galaxy S21?

The three models of Galaxy S21 will be natively under Android 11. Samsung has promised three years of software support on its flagships, so they will receive an update to the next three major versions of Android: Android 12, Android 13 and Android 14.

We will of course find for the occasion a brand new version of the One UI home overlay, one of the best Android interfaces on the market. In the last news, Samsung would integrate One UI 3.1 directly into its Galaxy S21 (S30). As usual, the firm would ignore version 3.0 of its interface.

One of the novelties would be, by the way, greater integration of Google services to the detriment of Bixby and Samsung services. If the S-Pen is confirmed, the smartphones concerned should take over many features related to the stylus available on the latest Galaxy Note. Wireless DeX mode that first appeared with the Note 20 could also land on the S21 series.
